Municipality
The commune lies in the Venoge valley, straddling the river.
It borders the commune of Daillens to the northeast, Lussery-Villars to the north, Cossonay to the west, Gollion to the south and Penthaz to the southeast.
Until December 31, 2006, the commune of Penthalaz was part of the district and circle of Cossonay. As of January 1, 2007, it joined the Gros-de-Vaud district. It covers an area of 396 hectares.
At the beginning of the 17th century, an ordinance forbade women to assemble to cotter, cackle and gossip as was their custom... It's probably since this time that the villagers have been called the "Cancaniers".
The people of Penthalaz were zealous supporters of the 1798 Vaud Revolution. Two liberty trees, of which no trace remains today, were planted. In 1803, Penthalaz provided Benjamin Epars with a deputy to the first Vaud Grand Council. In 1839, a fire ravaged part of the village. The Maison des Dîmes (tithe house) was saved and still exists, next to the church. On May 7, 1855, the Bussigny - Yverdon railroad line was inaugurated, and some 20 trains stopped at the Penthalaz - Cossonay station. Finally, on August 28, 1897, a funicular linked Cossonay - Gare to Cossonay - Ville. The first inn dates back to 1852 and, at the beginning of this century, it cost 4fr. to stay at the inn after closing time
